i play softball pretty competitively and i know pretty much every team that's good has some rolled or shaved bats now-a-days...gives it a lot more pop...is it possible to do that with a big barrel collegiate bat?

My coach about 4 years ago put the stuff that you use to fill in walls if you get a hole in your sheet rock in the barrel of this old Easton. I don't know if it helped but they were bombing homeruns and they were like 45 year old guys. It was sweet.

Rolling is just a method of breaking the walls of the bat, which in turn gives the bat more pop.

Shaving......the end cap is removed and the inner walls of the bat are "shaved" thinner. The thinner the walls of the bat....the hotter the bat is.

You can you use a rubber mallet too!

You can shave them, but you can't roll them. Rolling is for 100% composite bats. The bats in college aren't composite barrels, hence the "ping". They have composite handles, but not barrels. You can shave any bat. Thinner walls=more trampoline=more distance.

but they do check the bats to see if they had been tampered with.

They take the end caps off? That's the only way to tell if a good bat doc did the work. There is a machine that checks flex, but I doubt they have one at half the NCAA parks.

Won't that be easy to detect? If you shave a metal bat, won't the design come off with it?

How much of a loser do you have to be to juice up a bat for a softball game?
