I think Joe Burrow is a pretty big mystery, and solving it has been a long time coming.
4 star kid out of Ohio, obviously goes to Ohio State. Everybody knew he had potential, and a big reason he didn't win the job at OSU is because they had an insane amount of QB talent. Guy that won the job over Joe was a top 15 pick this past Spring. People like to say Burrow couldn't cut it at OSU, but it's not true. They, quite literally, were overflowing with talent. So Burrow transfers here. Mystery unsolved.
He starts off rocky in 2018, makes a ton of pretty clutch plays early in the season to show his stuff, but it's still pretty obvious he hasn't put it altogether. As the season progresses, so does Burrow. But at the same time the defenses get weaker. Considerably weaker. Nonetheless, Burrow torches those weak defenses and has a quite respectable stat line in the back half of the season. So we got one season with Burrow, half in which he's learning the offense, and the other half in which he's hitting his stride. Can he keep it up in 2019? Mystery still unsolved.
So here we are, fall camp 2019. We won't learn a lot about Joe until September 7th, and even then the Texas defense is not too great after losing a lot of starters. While this year may not solve the mystery, I think we get a whole hell of a lot closer learning where Burrow's potential falls in regards to the NFL.
In my opinion, sky is the limit for this dude. I think he's better than Mettenberger, with a weaker arm. I know the league LOVES big arms, but I think we see some huge strides in Burrow's accuracy and timing now that he's had a year with this WR corps. Not to mention, he is a hell of a runner. He already has what it takes to get it done when it matters, as showcased against Texas A&M, UGA, UCF, and Auburn.
This season is HUGE for Burrow's stock.
