My BIL was in the Coast Guard Reserves. He retired a couple of years ago. He used to go one weekend a month down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and They would go out on the patrol boat.

Hope you realize you could get called up to active duty. He was called up right after 9/11 and was assigned to the port of New Orleans. He served active duty for I think 6 months of so. He had to take a leave of absence from his regular job, but he is a U.S. Treasury Agent, so I don't think it was a problem.

But I think he liked it. He liked going out on the boat. Search and rescue stuff.

My BIL was also Coast Guard reserve he patrolled Lake Pontchartrain on weekends.

Was single and really enjoyed his duty time.

But seriously, the Coast Guard is a great, under appreciated organization.

I looked it up,what is your skill that they need? Navy had similar program for Seabees beginning of VietNam war,IPO(Instant Petty Officer).Depending on years of relevant experience determined rank one entered with. There was accelerated boot camp basically to familiarize them with the Navy. Was pretty good deal for those that qualified.
But(there’s always a but) they tended to catch some resentment from those that worked their way up from the bottom.Stay humble and be a team player and you’ll be fine.
