Just started following college football?
This has been going on for a long time. LSU has survived much better than others.
College Football’s Growing Problem: Empty Seats - Announced attendance dropped 3.2% in football’s top division last season, but schools’ ticket scans show even fewer fans in stands
NOT LSU:
Only 25,493 ticketed fans were counted at the gates, 36% lower than the announced attendance and about half of the stadium’s capacity. More than 14,000 people who bought tickets or got them free didn’t show up.
College football has an attendance problem. Average announced attendance in football’s top division dropped for the fourth consecutive year last year, declining 7.6% in four years. But schools’ internal records show that the sport’s attendance woes go far beyond that.
College Football’s Growing Problem: Empty Seats
It wouldn't copy but this is the list of conferences for the above graph. The SEC is doing better than the others but attendance sucks overall.
Scanned tickets
Announced attendance
SEC
Big Ten
Pac-12
ACC
Big 12
Mountain West
American Athletic
Conference USA
Mid-American
Sun Belt
Independen
Announced Attendance Isn't the Whole Story
The number of tickets scanned at the stadium vs. team announced attendance for home games, in 2017

It really ain’t rocket science.
1) cut down on commercial breaks. No game needs to last 4 hours
2) sell alcohol (already happening)
3) decent food at a reasonable price, not a moldy hamburger for 8 fkn bucks
4) stop selling “premium parking” and taking up good tailgating spots for those dumb pre-packaged charlatan “tailgates”
Make it about the game again and not turning a profit
