openly being proud of being a Gen Xer.

I'll tell you why I'm glad to be a Gen-Xer.

Our childhood was "pre-technology." We were able to make personal connections that didn't revolve around the internet. We had fun without spending 12 hours a day looking at a screen. We actually talked to each when hanging out. We went outside.

Without the internet, we actually had to learn things. We couldn't go through life being stupid just because we could always type a question into a search engine. We were allowed to read "offensive" books in school.

We made technology what it is. Boomers started it, but it was Gen-X that made in-home technology popular. It was Gen-Xers that showed the Boomer founders the true power and reach of technology. The Boomers and Gen-Xers made the internet what it is. We were the first to still be young and have computers and video game consoles in the home. You can thank us for all that security you enjoy on your devices, since we were the ones that exposed many of the vulnerabilities.

The music. Boomers had great music. Gen X had great music. Millennial music is regurgitated, focus group-approved, repetitive, factory-produced crap. Most of the good music being made today comes from Gen-Xers.

The movies. Boomers get a lot credit here for making a lot of them, but the movies during the time Gen-X came of age were far better than the rehashed shite of today.

Political correctness was virtually non-existent. We got to actually enjoy good comedy where people could make fun of themselves and the group they were apart of. Again, Boomers get a lot of the credit for making the comedy.

We actually got to enjoy being kids. We had merry-go-rounds and monkey bars. We could play smear the queer without judgement. We could roam all over town without worry. We could lay down and sleep on long drives since we didn't have to be buckled up all the damn time. We weren't sheltered by helicopter parents that were so scared of us getting hurt.

We were also young enough to enjoy the last stretch of peace this country had. We weren't drafted, and we didn't grow up during a perpetual war.

Gen-X had the best of all worlds. We had more technology and less harsh conditions than previous generations, and we avoided the pussification of later generations. Gen-X can be blamed for allowing a lot of the nonsense that comes from millennials, but growing up Gen-X was awesome. Plus, we're now in the prime of our lives. Old enough to make good money and not be driven by emotions and ignorance, and young enough to enjoy it.

I would hate to see them navigate a card catalogue and Dewey Decimal system.
