i don’t own a Vortex scope, but have heard great reviews of them. I do own a pair of Vortex binos and am extremely pleased with them.
Nikon has some good options in your budget.
I would recommend saving a little more money and get into the $500-700 range for a scope if that is an option. You have several months before a scope is needed to kill a deer at 200 yards and the purchase is well worth the expense once you see the difference in glass quality taking the next step.
Go 50mm if you can.

Midway advertised the viper hs 4-16x50 for 250 shipped in the mail. Got the flier today. The picture was actually the hs lr. Huge steal for 250; unfortunately, I couldn’t find it on the site.
