There's no way that, on top of the regular ticket, the guy paid an extra $2700 for a regular coach seat with extra legroom.
It's just a bulkhead seat. Yes, there's more legroom, but not everyone even wants those seats, because you can't keep a purse or backpack with you and store it under the seat in front of you, so you have to put that in the overhead bin for takeoff and landing. You don't have a normal entertainment screen in front of you, and the tray table folds out from your armrest instead of folding down from the seat in front of you, which makes the seat narrower gives you less room for your backside.
A one-way ticket for tomorrow's CDG-CLT flight in coach is $3135, and last-minute tickets are more expensive, so that's really the most that he would've paid.
