Why'd you leave out his SLG numbers? That is where Hughes stats really take a nose dive. 2 extra base hits in over 150 plate appearances. I honestly don't think I have ever seen a SLG under .200 before with that many at bats. It seems almost impossible. It is impressively bad.

I said it before when arguing about Andrew Stevenson's crappy stats, Hughes isn't some freshman taking his lumps. This isn't his first time getting extensive play. What are we expecting from him going forward? Is there any sign that he might be a good hitter next year? Hell he was barely a good hitter in high school, batting .360. That would have been the worst hitter on my state championship team. It's mind boggling he was given a scholarship being an out of state guy. Generally you want to get a sure thing when you get an out of state guy that you're going to have to give a full scholarship to like Bregman or Kramer, who both were great hitters in high school, Kramer batting well over .400 for 3 years and Bregman hitting over .600, which you would expect of anyone going to LSU from their high school days. I'm fine taking chances on instate guys, but the way scholarships work in baseball, and our advantage with TOPS, the out of state guys better be able to play, and Hal wasn't what we should be looking for in out of state guys.
I'd much rather see any of the 4 freshman get up there and struggle, knowing they have a promising future, instead of seeing a guy i've already seen bat 337 times and isn't good at it.
