thats easy, its already boxed in up there, just take down the covers and trim, replace the lights with newer brighter LEDs and then paint to finish.

the raised ceiling leaves you room to do a hidden accent shadow box style lighting behind some trim if you wanted to

if you try to fill in the ceiling it will not be something you can blend in very well
