I'm assuming it goes back to the tradition of a dowry along with religious/cultural traditions for the celebration.

It's been morphed into an ugly business though where girls get to swipe a credit card on anything and everything they want. $8000 for a dress...one dress...worn one time.

$350 for a ceremony musician who looks at the song list the morning of the wedding.

It's baffled me since I started playing weddings 6 years ago.

It also seems fair to me because the bride is probably the one making it cost so much

The groom hasn’t dreamed of his fairy tale wedding his whole life

Please ignore. I thought you were saying you DJ’d for receptions for only an hour. Not playing at the actual ceremony
