Songs don't have to be written to be played. Happens all the time with jam sessions leading to actual written productions.
Several musicians freelancing, jamming, a catchy riff emerges, riff gets expounded upon, lyrics tied to riff, song emerges. Now who gets credit for said song? Answer: 1st one to actually publish it.
