Just got back from this area. I was surprised how beautiful the water was this week and the sand was nice too. It was very much like Destin...only a lot shorter drive.

Did Alabama beat Mississippi on this blue water beach sea wall?

Last time, I went to Dauphin Island, near Fort Gaines the water looked only a touch cleaner than Grand Isle. Also that side of the island has a strong current due to its proximity to the bay.

I said in my mind time to go further east. So on my next trip, I drove to the other side to Gulf shores and the water was still not clear. So I drove east and ended up in Perdido Key.

One time, I just skipped over both locations and ended up in Navarre Beach.

It was beautiful. I especially liked the drive between Navarre and Pensacola along the beach. Two lane road through the preserve and no development except for picnic areas and restrooms. You could see the water and waves crash.

I saw mountains of sand waiting to be used as fill for washouts. I even thought Grand Isle should have these.
