How many people actually go swim in the water?

I lived in Bay St. Louis for about 15 years, and went to the beach many times. Only time I got in the water was to pee.

I'm just wondering if it would work. Even if it did work, Louisiana would figure out a way to screw it up.

Hell, no wonder the water's not blue.

I was at the Silver Slipper yesterday and the water at the beach was as opaque muddy brown as the Mississippi River. It's crazy. But even crazier, there were a handful of families swimming in it.

Also, when I was leaving New Orleans, crossing the Twin Span, I've never seen Lake Pontchartrain look that army green. Like an algae explosion. Anybody know what's up?
