I've lived away from Louisiana for 8 years in Columbia, MO and Baltimore, MD. This is what I learned:
We are fortunate to have authentic Mexican restaurants in South Louisiana. I guess it's b.c. we are not that far from the border.
It's not like that in the Midwest. Shockingly, neither the East Coast.
In Baltimore, there is no such thing as a Chinese buffet. Chinese is order out. I found one buffet in the suburbs and it was terrible.
Don't waste your money on Midwest seafood.
Kansas City BBQ is legit.
Steamed Crabs in Baltimore are legit.
Maryland crab cakes are just meh.
Missouri produces great wine.
