Maybe, maybe not. I would attribute the 1960’s as more of a reason the battle flag gets people pissed off more than the civil war. Google image any school integration protest from the time and honestly anything Birmingham civil rights to see where the angst comes from. Hooded fricks hiding behind their veils with a battle flag and noose hanging out of their car for intimidation purposes. I have way too many racist arse hole relatives from the MS delta to Philadelphia MS and I’d never want anybody to confuse me with the bull shite the are a part of.
ETA: my perspective - I have a MS birth certificate and lived there my first decade of life. Now I am a frequent visitor of the state.
