fuel sending unit is good and back lighting on gauge works, needle is in empty position, any suggestions before trying to remove the gauge? it's in pretty tight quarters

Fuel gauges on boats suck. Changing them sucks. Everything about them sucks. That's all I have to offer.

I dont think I have ever owned a boat that the fuel gauge actually worked. In my mud boat I give the tank a kick and in my bay boat I fill her up each trip. This method hasn't let me down yet.

I hear you, it's not so much for me, my daughter likes to take her friends out on it and I was trying to get it working for her
it's probably the simplest "system" on the boat too

Not really. You dont have anything to ground to and that makes it a pain in the dick.
