Yet, nearly every single time, the only other choice is Houston, and that place is just a giant Baton Rouge with more jobs and none of the benefits that south Louisiana provides to people who grew up here

What a laughable way to trivialize how much better Houston is than BR.

It may be better for you, but it's not for me. The only thing Houston offers someone like me that BR doesn't is likely better job prospects. All the other problems BR has (crime, traffic, bad schools, high housing prices, shitty weather) Houston has in spades with almost none of the benefits (your family close by for holidays, all your favorite restaurants, your social group in close proximity, connections with social and professional groups, knowing literally every other person around you because you grew up with them, etc.) There are big advantages to being near where you grew up, and I damn sure am not going to give those up unless the place I'm going to offers some seriously big and unique advantages of its own. Houston doesn't offer that. It's just a giant hot-arse, spread-out, traffic clusterf&%k with pro sports franchises.
