More info on the .300 BO. The original cartridge was known as the .300 Whisper or .300/.221 and designed by JD Jones (SSK Industries) in the early 90’s. It was created for pistol metallic silhouette competition due to the low recoil, and heavy grain bullets needed to knock down the metal targets at long range ... chickens, pigs, rams, and turkey.
15 yrs after the Whisper, AAC modified the cartridge dimensions and called it the .300 Blackout. It was perfect timing for the AR tactical rifle and suppressor craze. AAC used great marketing to capture the public’s attention for a small suppressed cartridge that fit in an AR magazine. The rest is history
