Someone else asked Sultan what would happen to doctors if we had universal health care, and if they would still be paid well, and if it would be worth it for younger people to go into the medical field and take on all that debt and years of education. Sultan said that people who go into the medical profession for the money are doing it for the wrong reasons. It’s interesting to talk with folks who entered the medical field +60 years ago. My mother, who is now deceased went to nursing school during WWII and she had the same beliefs as Sultan. The salary for a nurse back in the 40’s was probably less than most blue collar jobs. I
remember in the early 80’s mom was making over $25K annually and she was amazed at how the medical field was changing so rapidly and how much money there was in being a nurse, doctor, radiologist, etc.

Mom told me when she decided to become a nurse it was a calling to help people and many of the people who entered the medical field +60 years ago felt the same way, something else that was quite common back in the early days of modern medicine was many hospitals were faith based institutions.
