An employer is liable for the actions of their agents. Here, it appears that they were acting as agents of The Weather Channel given that they were providing video to be shown on the channel and were driving a vehicle carrying The Weather Channel logo, and The Weather Channel likely had some control of how they did the job.
Even if they're not your agent, you can be held vicariously liable for acts of your independent contractor when the independent contractor is engaged in an inherently dangerous activity.
