Homosexuality and pederasty existed then as it does now. But I think some people get confused by Greek words for love and friendship, and tend to exaggerate.
ETA: back to the subject, 300 was hyped as a great adaptation of a Frank Miller graphic novel. That's why I watched it. I'd be shocked if many people watched it expecting a pure history lesson.
Gladiator maybe confused things a little by using the name of a well known real emperor, but it was an entertaining work of fiction. And I think it inspired more people to take an interest in the real history, which is not a bad thing.
