I have a feeling that gay sex was not nearly so prevalent as people like to think.

Buggery was strongly strongly frowned upon and there are only a few openly gay people we know about. but they had some position I’m not going to look up where they rubbed up on each other to get off. That was extremely common between same sex partners

Well they wrote about homosexuality a lot, pedastery was a part of their society and had numerous known figures who are confirmed to have male lovers so I think it was definitely more widespread than Hollywood lets on.
I have no problem with Hollywood not being too historically accurate.
