It's hard and my mistake was not doing it soon enough. If it's there and you're already questioning when is when, it's time.
The last day of my dog's life he was so lethargic he couldn't stand to drink water on his own power. I regret not doing it a week earlier when he started struggling with his bowels thinking it was just a virus at worst.
