kicked the shite out of Baylor
That team must have been awesome. Went 10-0 scoring 442-11 with 7 shutouts (one of the 3 teams to score got a safety). That's an average score of 44-1

Isnt it kinda doing a disservice to the 1908 team though. I mean, i believe it is recognized by the NCAA as a NC.
By the way, we could also claim 1935, 1936, and 1962....but we're not 'Bama.

The NCAA doesn't recognize any titles. They do, however, acknowledge a few polls in their official record book. But keep in mind, there is a huge difference between "recognize" and "acknowledge."
As for why LSU doesn't claim it....well, the championship was awarded retroactively which may contribute to it. But I just think it's a reflection of the way LSU as an whole views football NC's. Like you said, they could also claim '35, '36 and '62 but they don't. It seems like LSU wants to only claim the most legitimate polls, and for that I applaud them.
As other posters have said, we aren't Bama.

Why do you suppose the LSU doesn't recognize this?
Because LSU is not as desperate as the gumps.

Uhhh, no, Michigan makes no claim to that title. Penn does, though.

How many legit championships does Bama have? They list 14 on their Wikipedia page.

I'm working on research on the 1908 season right now..
I have all the game accounts.
I have every player who played in a game that year.
I'm finishing up a major defense of the 1908 team, Vanderbilt is sending me the mins of the S.I.A.A. meetings.
I only have to close out the Colonel Boyd & William Dudley documents and finish a close look at the 1908 Tulane team.

Reason #1: Charges of a professionalism against LSU players (such as Doc Fenton ).
Reason #2: LSU decided not to claim the '35 & '36 titles due to Sugar Bowl losses, so why claim 1908?
Reason #3: An overriding and irrational fear not to look like Bama.
We've had this discussion before (I'm too tired to look for the actual thread) several times, and I personally think that LSU should definitely claim the title, for many reasons. First of all, LSU clearly had the best record that year, and was in my opinion, clearly the best team. Giving it to Penn, who had a tie and no real quality wins, is a travesty, and the only reason people usually cite for giving it to them is: "Well, all the past titles had gone to the Ivy League or Michigan before 1908, so they should get it in 1908 as well." bullshite, I say! LSU was clearly better.

Ole Miss has legitimate gripes. They were clearly robbed by the politics of the day, and fielded the best teams in CFB history up until that time.

tigger, what are your opinions about petitioning Chicken for a "Historians & Statisticians" message board on TD?

I think a Wiki with limited editing access would be the ideal solution. And yea, its already been brought up to Chicken, to which he replied he'll "mull it over." That was like 2 months ago.

I was just wondering what you, tigger1, lsumatt, and others, thought of it as individuals.

We do need a limited board for the historians etc....
or a way to message each other...
Doc I posted a beat to you the other day and you missed it.
About LSU's first football book, printed at the end of the 1908 season.
