Not trying to start anything but carrying a gun with only 50 rounds of practice through it scares the crap out of me. Before I will carry a weapon it has to have at least 400 rounds fired through it so I can see if there are any issues. Not to mention at least 40 rounds of the defense ammo. Not all ammo works well in every gun so you need to practice with it a lot to understand what will happen when the IT hits the fan. Try rapid firing, does the gun fail in any way shape or form? If so figure out what caused the failure - mag, ammo, shooter. Why rapid firing? Because in a self defense situation you will be so amped up you will not be firing slow and methodical. It will be quick. Can you and the gun keep up.
As to the original question, for me its situational
When I am running - Original Ruger LCP
If I have to pocket carry - S&W Bodyguard or maybe an XDs 45 (depending on the pocket depth)
Other times - Either FNS9c or Shield 40
Switching that much gives me an excuse to hit the range a lot. For example, Honey, I need to go practice drawing the Bodyguard because its about to be summer and I need to keep proficient :)
Dry fire practice and using this - LINK / helps when I can't get to the range.
