From rotoworld:
I guess Hackenberg managed to improve his practice habits to have gotten the start (or the league was like "He's young and a "name." Make him the starter so we can see if he will blow up!!!").
I mean, it was just June 17 2017 when this was reported:
quote:
Making his Alliance of American Football debut, Christian Hackenberg completed 10-of-23 passes for 87 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception in the Memphis Express' 26-0, Week 1 loss to the Birmingham Iron.
The former No. 51 overall pick of the Jets just three years ago, Hackenberg spent the 2018 season out of the league before landing in the AAF, where he beat out Zach Mettenberger for the Express starting job. Hackenberg was as bad, if not worse, than what we saw from him in his NFL days. Sheer panic takes over at the mere sight of pressure for Hackenberg, and that was the case on Sunday in a league where defenses are only allowed to send five defenders as pass rushers. Hackenberg tossed up plenty of prayers, all of which went unanswered. "Brandon Silvers" replaced Hackenberg late in the loss. Mettenberger will probably start the next game.

quote:
“When Hackenberg misses, he really misses,” Hughes wrote Thursday. “He threw just two interceptions in team drills, but nearly tossed six others. And I’m not talking about a receiver falling down. I’m saying the defender just dropped the ball. Other times, the wideout/running back/tight end was wide open, and Hackenberg sailed it over his head or bounced it to him. That can’t happen. In the three media-open OTAs, Hackenberg hit reporters with passes twice.”
