I lived in Queens for a while and never came close to a apartment that size.

In the article (linked below), it shows that nearly all "sold" (rather than "rented") apartments are larger than 1200 square feet. And it wouldn't surprise me that nearly all the old luxury apartment buildings (with large apartments) have gone the condo route.
