Mays’ shooting slump

I think he’s finally going to end it and go off tomorrow, leading us to a close W. Y’all think he can turn it around?

He’s never been a pure shooter. I’ve seen him play since 8th grade. Slasher, finisher and passer is his game . Will never be a high % 3 pt shooter. But can def improve from recent results.

I agree. He’s definitely able to shoot better than he is at the moment.

I mean he was well over 40% heading into conference play from 3 this season, 26 for 61 to be exact.
He can shoot, just has been way off recently.

So in 13 non-conference games he shot 26/61 for 42.6%.
But in 9 conference games he’s shot 13/52 for 25%.
Both are good sample sizes, so who’s the real Mays?
Last year he shot 35% from 3 for the season.
Truth is he’s probably somewhere in between how he started the season and how he’s played in conference as far as shooting % goes.

This. Its been bad. I'm all for shooters shooting, but it got to the point I just wanted him to stop.

Not saying it’s not possible, but there is not much recently to suggest he will make a 180 turnaround tomorrow.
He had two attempts in a row the other night that weren’t just misses, they were just flat out bad looking shots. One was an air ball and the next was a brick off the backboard that didn’t even touch the rim. To me that suggests his confidence is sinking as well. When a shooter is cold, they can generally turn it around and get some momentum. But when the confidence takes a hit, you rarely get it back with just the snap of your fingers.

It's been straight trash since Missouri

This is where I come down on it. He's not quite as good of a shooter as he was showing early on but he's also not a dreadful shooter like he's been showing as of late. He'll even out and it will be a big help for an already-prolific offense.

Pretty much. Shooting is his biggest weakness imo. That doesn't mean he's not a good player though.
He's a good ball handler, good passer, good defender, great free throw shooter (88.3%), & he's damn good at finishing around the rim. I've never thought he was a good shooter (besides free throws), but he isn't nearly as bad as he's been recently. He's a very streaky shooter from 3, so I expect him to start hitting them eventually. It evens out as long as another player gets hot while Mays cold.
We could do a hell of a lot worse than Mays. He's a solid player when his shooting goes cold, but he's a damn good player when he's hitting his shots. I'll take a guy like that all day.

I wasn’t confident he’d stay in the + 40% range, but I felt like he could easily have stayed in the 36-38 % range, possibly 38-40%.

at one point this season he was 40/50/90 percent on his shooting
anybody that shoots 90% free throws is a good shooter, he's slumping

Mays is a great & consistent free throw shooter. He's 2nd in the SEC.
He's a very streaky 3 point shooter though. 40% from 3 is him being hot. Good news is that he's about to be due for a hot streak.

1 or 2 made shots in big time games can totally change a players confidence going forward

I don’t completely disagree; but he had those type of shots at the end of the Missouri game and was sole reason for us getting to OT in that game. And now look at where his confidence is and how he has shot since that game.

All players go through it. It's one of those things that time is the only thing that works. Like golf, it's probably something very small, but that small mental block can really screw your game up. I'm hoping he will find his shot again soon!

If I were his coach, I’d make him step in dogshit. Nothing changes your luck quite like stepping in some stanky doggie doo. Don’t ask me why.

in 16 he shot 33%, 17 35%, 18-19 34%. I'd say he is about a 34% shooter from 3 point range. He sure is a superstar from the ft line though and this team would be in trouble without him.

Obviously not many of you have been 3point shooters in basketball. I'd say May's is slumping and it will turn around soon. I see him taking open looks for the most part.

I'm expecting about 35% for the rest of the year
