It was a reveal of Rand’s Heron Marked blade and the amount of effort that went to its production.
Rafe is also answering a bunch of questions on Twitter about production design.
He did comment that: Moiraine won’t have her staff...
And that when they do change things from the books it’s because others have done it too often before on screen, often stealing from WOT so they did feel the need to differentiate at times.
Also commented they are adapting Wheel of time, not Eye of the World, so they tried to approach season 1 that way.
And that they used “real” as much as possible, more than a lot of other fantasy productions, instead of CGI.

One most noticeable thing about the sword: there is a heron mark on the blade but not the hilt.
Which leads to the question:
SPOILERS
How shall he be "twice and twice marked" if the heron isn't on the hilt? Does he clutch the blade?
