I know you write this down in jest, but it's not as implausible an explanation as it appears at first blush. Although Sub-Saharan Africa consists mostly of nations which have been independent republics since ~ 1960, they still have yet to extricate themselves from the incubus of centuries of European colonial occupation. The British overlords, in particular, ruled by "divide and conquer", pitting tribe against tribe whereby there had previously been no conflict.

Just look at Wakanda for what is possible there. I know it's fictional, but I visualize the day Africa will become a more just, verdant and peaceful place.
