The original sticks buffered more and were more laggy than the boxes and many people attributed that in part ot having less RAM. The sticks had 1 GB of RAM compared to 2 GB in the boxes. The 4k Stick has 1.5 GB of RAM. Is that extra .5 GB of RAM enough to limit the buffering and interface lag? I don't know, that's why if I were you I'd get one of those 1st, see how it performs. At worst you put it on the kids TVs and have to buy 3 cubes. At best you don't need a cube unless you want some of the other features it has.

With my experience, the 4K stick processor is exceptional especially compared to the older sticks. I have not had any issues in regards to buffering or lag.
I also have a Roku premiere, but I find the 4K stick to have a faster interface.
