Over the weekend I had the opprotunity to read the book "Raising Cole", the story about Cole Pittman. My wife had read the book and suggested I read it. Not knowing what it was about, I began to read. Now you have to understand that the last book I read was in college over 18 years ago. I just don't read, but for some reason I wanted to read this book.
Cole Pittman was the older brother of Chase Pittman, which for some reason I did not know when I started reading the book. The book was written by his father on losing Cole to automobile accident in early 2001 right before the 2001 spring practice of Texas football.
If you are a father and have children, I think you should go out and buy this book tomorrow and read it. This was the most profound and uplifting book I have ever read. I found myself at times crying in certain parts. The book is about the relationship b/w a father and his sons.
For the younger guys on this board, I think you should read the book as well, and then after your finished, see if your not inspired to pick up the phone and call your father.
Thanks guys.
Mike

Yes that was me, sorry if I baored anyone, but I felt the need to tell people about the book. Being a father of twins, and lving my children the way I do, I thought maybe other fathers out there would enjoy the read.

Yeah for some reason I just did not remember the accident. I remember that Chase transfered and had lost a brother, but I did not put the 2 together until I read the book.

I for one suggest you do this while your dad is still here. Never wait.

AGREED 120%. I read this when my son was born. It is truly a great story. Very inspiring to new and older fathers alike. Even though there was a few things I found weird. Now, I know (ok, mostly)every father loves his son without limits but he stated in his book they held hands going down to Austin several times. I love my son to death, but I dont think we'll be holding hands when he is 18. Call me crazy but it just seems weird to me. Other than that, the story is great and I would suggest it to anyone.

I see what you're saying but if you had lost your son to an automobile accident, you probably would not have thought it was weird now, and would love to hold his hand again.

Cole is buried in a small cemetery in Dubberly where my grandparents are buried. I didn't realize until my grandmother died that they were from that neck of the woods.

I met Mr. Cole on Sr. Day in 05 a very nice man who turned something sad into something good for every other dad to learn from.
