But the other plethora of reasons don’t account for 1/3 of traffic deaths. Alcohol accounts for 32%, speed 31%, distracted driving 16% and weather 11%.
Ah, but we're not talking about ALL alcohol-related fatalities. We're talking about .08 and below.
Which - in 2010 - accounted for 5% of traffic fatalities.
So yes, distracted driving is basically 3x more problematic than people driving around with .06 BACs.
Being against this law doesn't mean I support drinking and driving. It means I am against criminalizing the behavior of millions of - otherwise law-abiding - people.
When I say "millions" I am referring to if this law were to be hypothetically enacted across the U.S.
How many in Utah alone? Dunno. But I'd be willing to bet there are at least 100,000 folks in a state of 3.1 million driving around with a .05-.07 BAC on any given Friday or Saturday evening.

Correct. BAC under .08 account for roughly 5% of deaths per year, or approximately 2000. Which is a small number in the big picture. But none the less 2000 too many.
I understand the argument of millions of Americans drive at .01-.07 daily. But imagine the percentage who A. Never get caught B. Can’t handle their alcohol even at .05.
It’s impossible to measure an impaired level below .08. As I stated before, I personally don’t believe this will be a nationwide thing anytime soon.
