I was a witness in an investigation where this was the case. An acquaintance shot a friend “accidentally”. The initial charge was 1st degree murder, which it was. There were 3 witnesses within ten feet of the shooting. After interviewing all the witnesses, the DA offered a deal for negligent homicide which was accepted. Dude was out in less than 5 years. It was complete bullshite.
