you must be from the low educated rural demographic. 90% of enlisted graduate in the lower half of their high school classes.
Hardly necessary to come at me like that but you’re about half right. Grew up in rural Louisiana and lower income. I graduated in the top 25% of my HS graduating class. 3.something. I wasn’t a genius but wasn’t a slouch either. After I scored a 92 on the ASVAB, which qualified me for any job in the military, I started to think hard about it. I thought about college at the time but had no interest in loans, had no idea what I wanted to do as a career, and always wanted to do the Marines. I enlisted and worked with explosives for 4 years, and luckily had an opportunity to work with some amazing units.
Served some time overseas before getting out and going to a 40k per year college completely debt free. No loans whatsoever and got to attend Red Sox and Yankee games all the time. I went to Boston, Cape Cod, NYC, Maine, etc on the regular and got paid while in school to do it. Got taught by some Yale professors, so not too bad for a military idiot.
