Here's a link that may help

Min wage leads to replacement by machines

quote:

These automatable jobs include positions like supermarket check-out clerks, who can be replaced by self-service checkout cashiers, and assembly-line workers in manufacturing plants, who can be replaced by robotic arms. Low-skilled workers, for the study, are defined as those who have a high school diploma or less.

"We find that a significant number of individuals who were previously in automatable employment are unemployed in the period following a minimum wage increase," the study says.

When wages are low enough, it's viable to use workers instead of incurring the cost of automation. As wages rise, automation becomes much more viable. So does hiring of undocumented workers

Not to mention machines are a frick ton more reliable than humans.

The machine that replaced the aforementioned highly paid worker has, to date, made zero mistakes. It’s much much faster, more effiecient, doesn’t get sick or require personal days, and is always on time. It’s an ideal worker and actually increased turnout.

People who scoff at automation have no idea how far reaching automation is. No one will be untouched by automation in the coming decades.
