Wow, I just googled Shaq and John Paul Funes, I didn't know the Big Diesel was knee deep into this. This is excerpt from story on NOLA.com from back in the day...
O’Neal announced his partnership with Our Lady of the Lake at a news conference this weekend, at the opening of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame museum.
“I wasn’t supposed to announce this, but I’m going to do it anyway,” O’Neal said, according to Tiger Rag. “I had a talk with the powers that be in Baton Rouge, and my plan is to build a Shaquille O’Neal children’s hospital.”
Funes said he has been friends with O’Neal since they attended Louisiana State University together. O’Neal has been visiting the hospital almost annually since his time at LSU to meet the young patients there.
“He’ll spend half a day walking around; we’ll go room to room to meet with every child,” Funes said. “His manner is amazing, and he can adjust to a 2-year-old or to a 17-year-old, every time.”
When they turn my book into a movie, Kazaam can make a cameo.
