Its a job interview "when in doubt" wear a suit and tie, I cant imagine any place that would hold that against you, for all they know you have other interviews or business that day that require it.

There are absolutely some places that will hold it against you if they never wear a suit for a job. I have a friend that is a Civil engineer on very large projects and he doesn't even own a coat. I give him a hard time every time we have a friends wedding because he is in shirt and tie.

If someone walked in with a real nice suit in some construction jobs and they didn't feel you "fit" in, I definitely think it would hurt you.
