The above is a great ( although long) article that outlines Bama's kicking woes over the years. As a hater of Bama and a coach of kickers, this article gives me the feelings. To give you the 5 cent version...Bama FG kickers suck.

Year FGA FGM Bama% NCAA%
2007 34 25 74% 73%
2008 30 20 67% 71%
2009 35 30 86% 74%
2010 25 19 76% 76%
2011 36 23 64% 72%
2012 20 15 75% 72%
2013 20 13 65% 75%
2015 33 23 70% 74%
2016 29 22 76% 75%
2017 28 19 68% 75%

Keep it close and put your faith in Tracy's 92% FG accuracy.

They benched their graduate transfer after he missed two extra points in a game.

LSU's best chance. It coming down to a defensive/kicking game.

Yep, he had another missed PAT and missed a short FG in their season opener. I wonder if the Bama kicking curse will jinx Reichard next year. Will is a great person and a stud kicker. He should be the piece of the puzzle that rights their historically bad kicking game....but I dunno. I know it is unlucky to be superstious but that place is just a back hole for good kickers.

The big problem is that we are kicking field goals and punting way more than they are.

This must be reversed to have any shot!!

No doubt you have the better kicking game. We even used our backup punter. IF this is a lower scoring, defensive, flip the field old school type game, advantage LSU.

As for our FG kicking, well, I have faith Bulovas will be right on time...

We have more TD's (58) than you have TD's (26) and FG's (21) combined.

We're also #14 in punt returns (LSU #48), and #18 in kickoff returns (LSU #102).

That’s pretty cool, was that started for a particular class? Is there an NFL version?

Thanks a lot! I'm an business statistics instructor and administrator at FAU. I had the idea for creating a punter index as I noticed the average punting distance was not always an accurate measure of punter quality. We had students build a website prototype for a class project. Also, we hope to have the data gathering and our social media administered by students starting next year. This will be a great project to gain experience for many different fields in business.

Interesting, I took a look at the methodology.

I really like how punts are calculated because a lot of people use “net” punting yardage as the key statistic. But then a punt from the 40 downed at the 1 will probably lower a punter’s net yardage when it is actually the “perfect punt.”

My main question with the field goal scoring is I didn’t see anything about hashmark factored in. A kick from the far right or left hash is much more difficult than one down the middle. But I assume this is a data limitation because gamecasts usually don’t mention what hash the kick is from, so that would probably take a lot of man hours to figure out. But just a thought on taking this to the next level.

Then if we really want to go way deeper, weather conditions and field conditions come to mind. Again that would probably take a lot of human judgment.

Slow day at work for me obviously... thanks for sharing.
