I think it's because the dominant portion career seemed pretty short. He took over as the dominant back in the league but it seemed to only last 3-4 seasons and then he completely disappeared.
He played during the era when the NFL was transitioning to an almost exclusively pass centric style and the idea of having a big stud RB was no longer the centerpiece of many offenses.
