Exactly. It may be "ruined" but in the artworld, it's just been transformed into a new piece of historical art that is probably "more valuable" now.

"The infamous self-destruct art piece by Banksy, the first like it in the history of art!"

Not much different than those stamps with the airplanes printed upside down. Not considered garbage.

Having said that, the art world (especially 'modern art') is at it's best, a self-indulgent circle jerk for pompous dickheads, and at it's worst, a blatantly obvious method for laundering money.
