Pete Alonso has been as advertised at the plate, crushing his third homer of the spring over the replica Green Monster at the Red Sox's facility Saturday to push his slash line to .423/.464/.885 through nine games, but the manager has been just as wowed by his defense and focus. "I kind of knew the offense was going to be somewhat special. So for me, the defense and how locked in to a game he is every day (is surprising)," Callaway said. "First base, you have to be locked in on every situation and he is very, very locked in. All the little things that it takes to be a quality major-league player, he's doing them on defense. That's probably been the most surprising thing." Dominic Smith is also having a big spring, potentially giving the Mets front office an out if they want to send Alonso back to Triple-A for a few weeks to delay starting his service-time clock, but he's doing everything he can to prove he deserves a spot on the Opening Day roster.
How you like dem apples, LE?

Strahm tossed four scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Saturday's 6-2 Cactus League win over the Reds, conceding two hits and no walks and striking out eight.
ANALYSIS
The Padres' decision to use Strahm in relief is less important than the fact that he upped his innings count in his second outing of the spring, which signals he's still being prepped for a rotation role once the regular season arrives. Strahm showed Saturday what kind of upside he might have in that capacity, boosting his spring strikeout total to 12 through nine scoreless frames across three outings. Expect the southpaw's average draft position to rise steadily as a result of his early dominance.
My team could use some good news.

Your boy Alonso was really trying to do the Astros a favor the other day.
Posted on 3/12/19 at 8:32 am to LSUBoo
Alonso is NOT to be fricked with.

LE, congrats on being Joe Alleva. I had no idea.

Sometimes I wonder if LE needs a chaser for some of the contrarian viewpoints he runs with.
Posted on 3/12/19 at 10:53 am to swamie
I am not trying to be contrarian though. Really never, actually.
I think its perfectly fair for both parties that Wade is suspended right now. I would say this to anyone in real life. People are really going to protest over this when the guy is on an FBI wire tap

Suspending him is weak. It's a pointless gesture... should just let him play out the season since it's either going to stand or all be lost anyway... or fire him now.
And they've all known about this FBI wiretap for months.
If you stood by the guy months ago, why not now?

Different leak just came out. It's not the same one they knew about last October.

It's not any less incriminating though.
It's been obvious since last October that something shady went down.

yes it most certainly is. The player in question ended up at the university. That wasn't the case the first time

Exactly

Eh... trying to buy a player that ended up elsewhere is pretty damn bad as well.

That makes a suspension at this point even more ludicrous. I guess LSU can keep that one win over Vanderbilt. Yay!
Either ride the season out since it's all forfeit anyway, or fire the guy and move on.
My opinion, if you're in this far after knowing there were FBI wiretaps (and let's all be honest, we all know there was something shady going on) then might as well play it out.
At this point I think there's little to no chance that Will Wade coaches again for LSU, and I think Joe should go down with him. Clean the whole house. Fire Mainieri while you're at it just because he sucks.

They’re withholding the player. Which I don’t agree with. They have to separate from the coach, tho

Play smart. But ncaa is going to hit you with “lack of institutional control” if you don’t distance yourself from Wade. And that’s why he’s indefinitely suspended. Not because he didn’t want to meet

Then they should have done this when the story first broke.
Did anyone really read about the dealings regarding Koprivica and think that it was just a one-time thing that didn't go Will Wade's way?

I'm with Boo.
You either stand by your guy or you don't. Suspending him won't change anything if he is potentially in trouble with the NCAA. Ask Mizzou if cooperating got them off easier.
You're either fricked or you're not. Trust your coach until you have no other choice. That day comes, you fire him.
I'm sure he didn't tell higher ups to GFY when they asked him to appear. He probably said, "Look, it isn't how it appears. Have your lawyers get with my lawyers, but I can't comment on it right now. Hope you understand but let this play out."
Instead they'er patting themselves on the back because Sankey approves of their action, the same guy who basically told everyone to GFY while we waited on comments about the officiating from the A&M game.

Wade wouldnt even meet with LSU about it. That tells you he knows he is fricked, and they all must find a way to find a loophole with all this.

You're kidding yourself if you don't think this would happen either way. If the NCAA wants to bust you, they'll bust you. This isn't Schrodinger's cat.

Why create a situation when there wasn’t one?
No reason to suspend Wade at that point.
This ain’t the end of it either; there are many more basketball programs on these tapes.
