Bard's Tale Barrows Deep

I'm older than dirt so I was around for Bard's Tale 1-3. Bard's Tale 3 was fun but hard work. You absolutely had to break out the graph paper and mark every step you took. Spin traps plus darkness spells made it impossible to make progress without the old graph paper.
Last weekend when the new game came out it got skewered for bugs and slow frame rates. I've been watching Cohhcarnage stream it all week and finally decided to jump in.
I think it is lots of fun but the grid / turn based combat isn't for everyone. I like the combat which is a modern take on the older games turn based combat.
A patch came out last Friday and there will be another one tomorrow.
Damn shame they released it when they did. A couple more weeks or at most a month and the game would have been good to go. As it is, none of the bugs I saw were game breaking. More annoyances. Passives not stacking damage correctly. Things like that. No inventory sorting which should be in the patch tomorrow.
I would love to hear the reasons why a game is released when it is released. I guess a month from now, they figured the competition would be too steep. Now it is going to be real hard to get folks who have never played Bard's tale to give this one a look after they read all of the negative crap on steam.
Shame they rushed it. I'm having a blast. I have the day off today and I played all damn night last night.

The second patch did wonders for frame rates. I assume they just figured out what was hogging the most resources and then disabled it. I didn't notice any hit to the graphics.
2nd patch also sped up some of the combat animations. They still have a few that hang up for a few seconds especially with large bosses.
I'm still loving the game.
Needed fixes:
1. Mapping all shrines / places of interest
2. Inventory sort
3. Continue to fix combat animations
4. Rebalance Elven weapons - once fully upgraded, they aren't as good as regular options. Lots of steps to upgrade with not enough increase in stats
I've had lots of fun. I do think they captured the spirit of the originals.

Don't pass.
The game is a lot of fun.
None of the bugs have any bearing on how much fun the game is. Framerates and passive bugs appear to be fixed.
The musical score alone makes this a good purchase. The voice acting and writing are lots of fun.
There is some additional fine tuning they can do but I've enjoyed the heck out of the game.
I know I am nearing the end and I want more. Ringing endorsement from me. Watch a couple of episodes or cohhcarnage playing. He sold me on the game. Although I would have bought it anyway.
