Not trying to be a dick, but this sounds like user error.
I have a Roku tv hardwired to my router on a 10 year old tv. Sports game stream perfectly in hd, as does everything else. I have a very cheap set up (still in school) and I never have a problem
ETA: not to say you are absolutely the only problem, just sounds like a little more know how would help you. You’ll get that with experience so keep tinkering!
What is your internet speed?

There is nothing particularly difficult about the set up, though. That’s why I’m having a hard time figuring this out. I’ve gone through every setting in the apps, roku, tv, etc.
