I live in Gonzales, from New Orleans. I gave my Marathon antenna a trial today, before permanent installation. I got all New Orleans and Baton Rouge television stations, 51 in all, at 18 feet, with the antenna facing east, southeast. Well worth the $169 I spent. I read about the antenna on this site. Seeing is believing.

Did you mount in attic or exterior?

Trial was outside. My house is a year and half old, and it has that aluminum sheeting on the interior of the roofing plywood. The only channels I got thru that sheeting was 33 and 44, and their sub channels. I couldn’t even get 2 or 9. That is one highly functioning antenna. Kinda pricey, but extremely compact. The whole unit weighs about five pounds. I read many reviews on it, and it has a 30 day return policy for those not happy with it. I live near Highway 30 and the interstate. No problem with the New Orleans tv stations, which were the stations I wanted.

Awesome. Thanks for the info, I am in a similar boat being from New Orleans and live in Gonzales. Live near 74 and I 10. Hopefully the extra 5 miles doesn’t make a huge difference in picking up additional channels.

Go to amazon prime, look up the antenna, and read the reviews.

So foil backed plywood in the attic screws you up big time?

The customer service guy with Free Signal (maker of the Marathon antenna) referred to it as a “radiant barrier”. It prevented me from getting 2 and 9, even 16 feet about the ground level of my house, inside the attic.

51 channels last night, none today. I will find out how good the customer service is tomorrow.

If you don’t mind, share the outcome. I ordered this antenna and should receive today.

I cut my main 50 ft cable to put the booster closer to the antenna, and I did not put the coupling on correctly. It was my mistake. I am now getting about 31 channels. Apparently, the antenna works better in clear weather. I am at about 18 feet. I am slowly learning. Once you auto scan your channels, and you get, say 51, then you auto scan again, and you get 18, the 51 channels are replaced by the 18. So, it is best not to keep auto scanning. You will see what I am talking about once you do it. It is a good product. I don’t want to go any higher than 18 feet. The customer rep told me the 100 mike range is based on 30 ft high.

How high are you planning on placing your antenna? Please let me know how you fare.

I will likely move later, but just installed in attic. I am getting 33 channels now, but some are not getting a great signal. I will be interested to see what happens on a clear day. I am getting all the BR channels with much improved signal strength. Hopefully that will continue. Thanks for the recommendation.

Are you having your antenna face 107 degrees? I get channel 6 very good when it is not cloudy. 54 and 38 are better than the other NOLA channels. I am happy with the antenna. I don’t get the Baton Rouge NBC affiliate in the direction I am pointed, but I did get it on my first trial run. I don’t recall a period with so many cloudy consecutive days in SE LA.

First clear weather stretch since my installation. Antenna working great. No 8 or 32 out of NOLA, but everything else is coming in great. Actually picked up a Lake Charles station for a little while.

Will need to take the time and mount outside and see results. No Nola channels in attic, but getting all BR channels great.

I just did my final, permanent installation. Went up to 22 feet and added all factory manufactured cables. 53 channels, all NOLA, Baton Rouge channels, and channel 30 out of Lafayette. I have a glitch in my attic connection thru the pre installed cables/direct tv connections. I need to call free signal to figure out the proper way to route the antenna signal thru the existing cable. Very pleased. WVUE very clear.

One more thing, I used 2” pvc pipe for the mast, and my neighbor told me to used heavy weed eater line, with cable clips, for the guy wire.. Works wonderful.

Long story short, the free signal tech support guy told me that the direct tv equipment operates on a lower frequency than over the air equipment does. I need to run separate cables and splitter if I operate both antenna and satellite. I have 10 more months on my direct tv contract. I am just going to run a single cable from the antenna to the main tv in the living room for the time being. If, and when, I get rid of direct tv, I will just tap into that system, once the satellite equipment is out of the way. Antenna works great when it operates independent of other equipment.
