Quarter repeats are your friend. Many ways to run/program, but always run them faster than your target pace, especially when training for the mile.

5:38 is your goal which is about 85 sec quarters. Work your way up to 6 x 80 sec or 4 x 75 sec and you will hit your time no problem.

What sort of rest times should I be working toward for those quarter miles at 80s or 75s?
