Yep, having a mountain cabin or an island cabin to get away is a big plus in that part of the country. Get a boat, go island hopping. Seattle and Vancouver not far away.
I also dig the beaches in the NW though they serve a much different function than in SD.

Yep, to me the beaches are about harvesting food and winter storm watching. I don't go to the beach during the tourist season.
