Eh, some of them are still working.
My shop currently uses VB.Net but was a COBOL shop when I was brought in to help with the transition about 15 years ago. The old folks who did a lot of actual COBOL programming are heading off into the sunset now but are still alive and kicking if they get a big enough paycheck to leave.
