It's weird he didn't know the social norms and stop after she didn't recognized him. With that said, I'm one of those people that observe things and remember shite like that. I know all the kids' names that are in daycare with my kids and I recognize their parents/cars even though I don't know their names if we are on similar schedules. There are many other parents that don't know me but address my kids by their names when we are walking in/out of daycare. I actually like that fact that we all know each other b/c it makes me feel a little safer about some random bastard snatching a kid. However, my wife would be like the other interviewer in your story. She could bump into the same person 25 times before remembering them.
