What’s odd about politics, is that neither side of the aisle talks about this. Seems like it’s going to continue to exponentially rise and no on seems to care, aside from those attending college.
LSU now exceeds in state tuition at UConn in 1999. The reality is, every other legitimate state school eclipsed the current tuition decades ago, and LSU could double or triple tuition and it would still be less than current out of state tuition anywhere else. (And that’s not factoring TOPS).

LSU is still much, much more affordable than its peer institutions - and all of its “in state” students have a substantial portion of that tuition covered because of TOPs.
Since it’s easier to get TOPs than to get into LSU and TOPs covers most of the tuition bill, students are mostly covering fees, housing, and books.
With that in mind, LSU is dirt cheap and an amazing value. They could add another $2500 in fees and still be a great value.
However, now that they’ve hiked tuition again, they’d better show continued progress in the rankings and quality.
